looking at getting the Cobb ram intake for my 06 WRX. just wanting to know eveyones thoughts. i know that with the short intakes you get better air flow over the sensor but its hot... well hotter then a cold air. what ever intake u have could you give me the good and the bad that you have seen.

You are going to be told to use the search button as this has been covered before. But I will take pity on you. The cobb intake does not add power by cobb's own admission. All short rams inhale hot air which has a negative affect on performance. Some yield dyno power gains when the hood is up and there is a big fan blowing air right at them. But in actual real life driving they tend to harm performance.

Never had a problem with my cobb and agile recommended it to me when I got tuned. I have the filter pressed up against the side of the engine bay and it never even feels really hot. Out of the way, and shorter distance for air to travel. Sounds great too.

I have an AEM sri thats mounted up pretty identically to the cobb sri. It sounds great, and was only 120.00 .... even if its no good it wasnt a large investment anyways. I plan on putting the factory air box back on in the summer...

Sorry to revive this old thread but I didn't want to re-create something thats been covered alot.

I'm about to purchase the COBB SF intake because it's tuner preferred and it's really the only thing he wants to work with ( I would have gone APS 65MM CAI if I had my way but I want to keep the car as safe as possible )

Anyway here's my question, does COBB's SF intake box work well, and is it worth the extra $125 since I'm going to be staying with a SRI?

I am positive I know who your tuner is, I have a customer who is dealing with him right now and is not happy since the guy will only tune what he wants and says everything else is no good. The guy is a very good tuner, dont get me wrong, but to say, well you have to have this for me to tune your car is kind of rediculous. A tuner should be able and willing to work with what the customer wants.

If you want the APS, get the APS, dont settle for something that you are not happy with. The APS is not in any way less safe than the Cobb SRI.

I have the cobb sf intake w/ cobb air box and I am very happy with it. I have no real proof/evidence that it performs better than the OEM box, but from what I have experienced, it feels slightly better. The throttle response feels a bit better and slightly faster spool up. I have tried K&N and SPT and both of those intakes make my car run very poorly. Cobb SF seems to be the only intake my car likes besides OEM. For me it was definately worth it to spend the extra $ on these parts. The cobb box is designed very well and makes for nice Engine BLING too.

Thank you for your responses. FlyingPerformance, I am talking about Agile if thats who you were thinking about. I have heard great reviews on his tuning, but you're right, it is a little rediculous to be told what to buy. His reason for me to not buy the CAI was because he's "seen a few engines blow" and the sound of that just does not make me smile haha. After thinking about it I guess I will just go with Cobb's SRI and the intake box, I'd rather not have an intake in the fender seeing as i daily drive it and I've seen some pretty bad puddles, even though I'm almost positive they wouldn't affect the APS.

1: Wheres the BS flag smilie for that 'engine blowing' comment. What was the overall setup, what intake, how long was it ran untuned, what was to condition of the car?

2: If you drive through 3.5ft puddles of water you'll have bigger issues than a CAI.

I may be wrong, but it sounds like he has a few base maps that he loads up, tweaks a few parameters and calls it a day. I've seen that done several places, I'd be pretty bummed spending $300+ on that type of "custom" tune.
