I am new to the site and introduced myself in the newbie section. Please bare with me. I drive an 04 STi (very new to me).
This past Thursday I was doing some spirited driving on some nice country roads that I'm quite familiar with. As I was driving I noticed like a pinging noise coming from the engine (not good so I slowed down and came to stop). Car idled fine and still maintained good revs through the RPM range. I noticed a difference when boost kicked in. The turbo seemed to be not having as much power. After about 20min (making my way slowly home) the CEL came on and cruise control began blinking.
Made it to my parents safely. Called my local tuning shop and drove the car cautiously to them to have them look it over. I was throwing a code where the intake camshaft had advanced. Here comes the most embarrassing thing that I've ever been through. They informed and showed me the oil was very low (none on the dipstick at all). Me, feeling like an idiot, remembered that I didn't check the oil when I bought the car about a month ago.
So the shop put (worst part!) 3.5 quarts of oil in the car. Makes me sick to my stomach typing that. Anywho, the shop (there's 2 great Subaru tuner's there) informed me that bc of such low oil there could have been some pre-detonation going on which may have been the pinging noise I heard. Once the oil was added the CEL was cleared and everything is back to normal.
Here's where my most recent issues/questions/concerns come in. Under boost at higher RPM's 5-7K there is a rattling (I compare it to the sound of a loose heat shield) noise coming from the turbo. I assume this could be due to the fact that I had no oil in the car and the bearings got messed up in the turbo. On top of this I just observed today that blue smoke is coming out of the exhaust at all times while driving the car. When the hood is popped after it has been running and shut off there's a burning oil smell and smoke coming from the turbo area.
I just finished doing a complete oil change because the oil was quite black. I figured this wouldn't cure anything. It needed to be done.
Thanks for reading all of this! I know it's long. I'm trying to be as detailed as possible, so I can figure out what is wrong and try to find out how it can be fixed.
If there's any questions, just ask
