How many miles do you have on stock struts?

I've always thought that the STI factory struts were crappy ones. However, some users have told me that they just don't have enough grease in them from the factory, which often leads to premature failure caused by lack of lubrication - i.e. the infamous "clunk".

I am just curious to see how long the OEM struts may potentially last
depending on various factors.

Background on me: I am replacing my left rear strut with a used one later this week. I decided NOT to switch to coilovers (yet) since this car is my weekend car now and don't plan to auto-x/track this year. Plus, NJ roads are pretty awful even though we pay a $h!t-load on tolls. I also towed a 4x7 utility trailer with a Suzuki GSXR-750 with this car for at least 3,000 miles.

I'm not looking for general "clunking" since that doesn't mean your struts are necessarily broken. I MEAN - you needed to take the damaged one out and replace it with new/used OEM struts, aftermarket struts, or switched to coilovers. If you'd like to contribute, please answer the following questions:

1) Model, year, current mileage.
2) How many miles do/did you have without requiring strut replacement?
3) Did you ever take apart your struts to repack the grease? How often did you do this?
4) Stock springs, or aftermarket? If so, which ones?
5) Do you auto-x, rally, track, HPDE, or do any other competitive driving? How many events have you done with this car?
6) Did you ever tow anything with your car? How many approx. miles?

Thanks, guys. This will help me determine my long-term solution. For now, I am going to replace the one strut, ride on RCE Yellows, and save up some money to see where I go from here. With 43k miles, I'm sure the other struts may start to crap out as well - though I repacked them last week.

there is such a thread already i believe, I personally dont mind being asked the same questions over and over again by new guys but at a certain point u gotta learn how the search works and if you cant find it by all means ask

Yes, I like sharing ideas, learning, and seeing what other people have to say about different things. It seems to help me a lot before I make any big purchases on parts. I don't know a lot of suspension mods since I haven't done that in the past, so I wanted to get some experience from other owners.

And I DID search prior to posting and certainly saw similar threads. They were pretty vague and didn't answer my questions really. Mileage on stock struts will vary based on many factors so just asking for how many miles on stock struts wouldn't really cover everything. So, I thought I'd make my own thread.

Isn't that what this forum is all about???

I felt that my thread would cover many different factors, such as:
-usage
-maintenance habits
-current modifications
-history

That way, someone else with a similar question/dilemma could just read the responses and find answers from people with similar usage patterns/habits/mods/etc.

Anyway, you don't have to contribute if you don't want to. It certainly doesn't help to say "search the threads" or "I don't mind saying the same thing over and over again". I don't mean to waste your time - next time, just ignore the thread and don't bother to respond. Some other people might actually contribute.

But seeing that no one really responded, I guess this isn't really a big concern to most people. I have a broken strut, so it is important to me in order to make a decision on what to do.

Search button is working fine. Used it already. Use it everyday I'm online.

I don't post before searching first. I saw most of those threads already. Some of them were outdated - 2004. I was hoping that my thread would just have responses with people listing their experiences on the questions I asked compiled into one easy thread rather than looking at a bunch of 'em.

How many approx. miles?

I wanted to see updated responses with everything consolidated. It's a moot point since this thread didn't go anywhere. Plus, I figured out what to do... for now anyway.
