Hey guys! I know everyone on here hates the sound tube that pipes noise into the cabin. Personally, I love it! I want more intake noise. Ive been reading that the sti has some sort of a jug that silences down spool noise somewhere in the intake. Any idea if this is the same as the previous years? Anyone remove it? Any threads detailing how on the 2015?

Thanks!

I can see it not making much of a difference on the earlier year cars, but with the sound pipe on our 2015's I feel like it would be a huge difference. Is the removal procedure the same as the earlier years? Also what do you do to plug the hole up? Some people just remove the jug and leave the empty pipe, which fucks up the whole ram air intake idea aswell as makes it easier for water/shit to get into your intake.

The sound generator is so far into the intake that opening up the filter side isn't going to make any difference at all.

Pulling the silencer is the same as previous years.

What's the point of plugging it up if you remove it?? There would be no change at all in sound. Additionally, our cars don't have a true ram air system. The Duct delivers cool air to the filter, but it's not a direct route like on my e92 M3 (which had a true ram air from the factory). The whole point of removing the resonator is to allow more air to get in. There's also not any additional debris from removing it since it is still covered my the belly pan and wheel well cover.

Removing the milk jug will not provide you any benefits to sound nor gain any performance at all. All you'll do is let the engine ingest hot air from the exhaust manifold below (if left uncapped) and you'll barely hear anything unless you turn off the stereo and roll up the windows.

If you want more spooling noise, get an intake and tune. Other than that, do yourself a favor and keep it the way it is. ;)

Not 100% accurate Joe. If you search "Airboy Tuning" he has shown that removing the resonator and adding the HKS funnel makes +5whp consistently on the '15 (as well as all '08+ STI's). My own logging results also showed no disadvantage to removing the resonator. On hot days here in SoCal I've witnessed the stock airbox reaching 163 degrees once when I was stuck in a Starbucks drive-thru. It hasn't reached that temp since removing the resonator, but it regularly hits 120-130 when stuck in standstill traffic.

With that said, I've already got an AEM intake waiting to be installed :D.

Perhaps. But dynos with the hood open and fans blowing down into the engine and outside conditions with the hood closed aren't the same.

If you want sound you need an intake + tune (might as well go ahead and get a downpipe as well when you do this). You will definitely hear the turbo and the boost pressure release between shifts when you do this.
